Speed-to-Lead Intake Test

The firm that replies first usually wins the client. Submit your own contact form with a test address, and we’ll time your first real reply and grade it against national law firm data.

Test your intake the way a new client would

  1. 1 We give you a private test email address.
  2. 2 You fill in your own website’s contact form with it, like a potential client.
  3. 3 We time the first real reply, and email you the grade.

We log only when replies arrive, who sent them and the subject line, never the message itself, and delete it after 30 days. Our email provider, Resend, receives the replies and keeps them for up to 30 days.

Use an address your intake team won’t see, so the test stays a surprise.

How it works

The method, and the sources behind it

  1. You get a private test address

Each test has its own address, like [email protected]. Only replies to that address count.

  2. You become your own lead

You fill in your firm’s contact form with that address and a realistic message, then start the clock.

  3. We time every reply

Replies are logged the moment they arrive. Automatic confirmations are spotted from their headers, sender and timing, and kept separate from replies by a person.

  4. You’re graded against real data

A: under 5 minutes. B: under an hour. C: same day. D: within 7 days. F: no reply. The benchmarks come from Hennessey Digital’s 2025 study of 1,333 law firms.

Disclosures

  • About this tool. Test only your own firm’s contact form. The grade compares one test submission with published benchmarks (Hennessey Digital 2025, Clio 2024, read November 5, 2026). It measures email and form replies, not phone or after-hours handling unless you log those yourself.
  • Your data. We store the email you give us, your website, your test address and, for each reply, the time it arrived, the sender’s domain and the subject line. We never store message bodies. Replies are received by our email provider, Resend, which keeps messages for up to 30 days. We use your email only to send this test’s result, and we delete test data after 30 days. See our privacy policy.
  • Not legal advice. Lawzen is a marketing agency, not a law firm. Nothing on this page is legal, ethics, tax or financial advice, and using this tool doesn’t create an attorney-client relationship.
  • Who made it. This free tool is made by Lawzen, which sells marketing services to law firms. Where it mentions our services or prices, it’s describing what we sell. Results are provided as-is, without warranty; see our terms.

Questions, answered

About the Speed-to-Lead Intake Test.

How fast should a law firm reply to a web lead?

Aim for under 5 minutes during office hours. In Hennessey Digital’s 2025 study of 1,333 US law firms, the median firm sent its first personal reply in 13 minutes, a quarter replied in under 5 minutes, 56% replied within an hour, and 26% never replied within 7 days.

Why do I need to submit the form myself?

Because that’s the only honest way to test it. Your form, your CRM, your autoresponder and your intake team all play a part, and a real submission tests all of them at once. You only test your own firm.

What counts as a “real” reply?

A message written by a person, or a call or text from your firm, which you can log yourself. Confirmations sent by software (“Thanks, we received your message”) are shown on the timeline but don’t stop the clock. If we label one wrongly, you can switch it.

What if my form rejects the “+” in the address?

Use the plain address shown under it. We then match the reply to your test by your website’s domain, as long as you have only one test running for that domain.

What do you keep?

The time each reply arrived, the sender’s domain, the subject line and whether it looked automatic. We never store message bodies, and test data is deleted after 30 days. Replies pass through our email provider, Resend, which keeps them for up to 30 days.

How do other firms compare on phone calls?

Clio’s 2024 secret-shopper study found shoppers could reach only 52% of firms by phone, just 40% picked up when called, and only 33% replied to an email inquiry.
