How it works

The method, and the sources behind it

  1. We load your real homepage

The same page a potential client sees, plus your robots.txt and XML sitemap. No questionnaire: nothing you say changes the score.

  2. Google tests it on a phone

Google PageSpeed Insights measures speed and accessibility on a mid-range phone, and adds real-visitor Core Web Vitals when Google has them.

  3. 30 checks across 6 areas

Speed and mobile, getting the call, trust, SEO basics, schema and AI search, and accessibility and compliance, weighted by what wins law firm clients.

  4. You get the fixes, ranked

Every check explains what we found and how to fix it, and the top five are ranked by how many points they cost you.

Disclosures

  • About this tool. Scores are an automated snapshot of one page at one moment, weighted by our own judgment of what matters for law firms. A high score doesn’t guarantee rankings or leads, and an automated scan can’t confirm accessibility compliance (ADA or WCAG). Speed data comes from Google PageSpeed Insights.
  • Your data. We fetch the public pages of the site you enter and send its address to Google PageSpeed Insights. We keep the scan address, result and a one-way hash of your IP address for 30 days, to cache results and limit abuse. See our privacy policy.
  • Not legal advice. Lawzen is a marketing agency, not a law firm. Nothing on this page is legal, ethics, tax or financial advice, and using this tool doesn’t create an attorney-client relationship.
  • Who made it. This free tool is made by Lawzen, which sells marketing services to law firms. Where it mentions our services or prices, it’s describing what we sell. Results are provided as-is, without warranty; see our terms.
  • Trademarks. Google, ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Avvo, Justia and other names mentioned belong to their owners. Lawzen isn’t affiliated with or endorsed by them.

Questions, answered

About the Law Firm Website Grader.

What makes a good law firm website?

It loads fast on a phone, makes calling one tap away, shows real attorney bios and reviews, has a separate page for every practice area, and tells search engines clearly that it’s a law firm in a specific place. Those are exactly the things this grader checks.

Why is my speed score different from other tools?

We use Google’s own PageSpeed Insights on a simulated mid-range phone, which is stricter than a desktop test. Scores also move a few points between runs. Real-visitor Core Web Vitals, when shown, are the numbers Google actually uses.

My site blocked the scan. What now?

Some security plugins and firewalls block automated visits. That can also block Google’s and AI search engines’ crawlers, so it’s worth checking with your web developer.

Does a high score mean I’ll rank first?

No tool can promise rankings. A high score means the basics that help you rank and convert are in place. Reviews, links, your Google Business Profile and the competition in your city matter too.

Do you store my results?

We keep the scan result for 30 minutes so a second scan of the same page is instant, and a short record to stop abuse. We don’t need your email to show you the full report.
