    How it works

The method, and the sources behind it

    1. Measured in pixels, not characters

Google cuts titles and descriptions by width. We measure your text in Arial at Google’s sizes, so a title full of capital Ws is caught even if it’s short.

    2. Desktop and mobile

See both. Mobile titles can wrap to two lines; mobile descriptions get cut sooner.

    3. Law firm checks

City and keyword in the title, a call to action in the description, and a warning for “best” or “#1”, which can break advertising rules.

    4. Bulk mode

Paste a CSV of URLs, titles and descriptions from your SEO plugin and see every page that gets cut off.

    • About this tool. Pixel limits are estimates from independent measurements: Google doesn’t publish them, changes them, and may rewrite your title or description. The preview approximates Google’s layout; it isn’t Google’s own rendering.
    • Your data. Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to Lawzen or anyone else; anything saved stays on this device. See our privacy policy.
    • Not legal advice. Lawzen is a marketing agency, not a law firm. Nothing on this page is legal, ethics, tax or financial advice, and using this tool doesn’t create an attorney-client relationship.
    • Who made it. This free tool is made by Lawzen, which sells marketing services to law firms. Where it mentions our services or prices, it’s describing what we sell. Results are provided as-is, without warranty; see our terms.

    Questions, answered

About the Google Search Result Preview.

How long should a law firm page title be?

Aim for roughly 50–60 characters, or about 580 pixels on desktop. Google doesn’t publish an exact limit and cuts by pixel width, so check it in the preview. Lead with the practice area and city, and end with the firm name.

How long should a meta description be?

About 150–160 characters (roughly 920 pixels on desktop), with the key point and a call to action early, because phones show less. Google sometimes writes its own snippet anyway.

Does Google always use my title and description?

No. Google may rewrite either one if it thinks other text on the page matches the search better. A clear, accurate title and description make that less likely.

    Are the pixel limits exact?

No one outside Google knows them exactly, and they change. Our limits come from independent measurements and are a safe guide, not a rule.
