How it works

The method, and the sources behind it

  1. Enter your details once

Your firm name, address and phone become your “one true listing”: the exact format to use everywhere.

  2. One click per directory

Each Search button opens the right search for your firm: Google Maps, Bing, Apple Maps, or a site search on Avvo, Justia, FindLaw and the rest.

  3. Mark what you find

Listed and correct, listed with wrong info, or not listed. Your progress saves in this browser, so you can finish later.

  4. Fix the ones that count

Maps, your state bar, Avvo and Justia count most. The fix-first list puts the highest-impact gaps at the top.

Disclosures

  • About this tool. Lawzen isn’t affiliated with, or paid by, any directory listed. Which directories matter most is our own judgment. Each Search button opens the directory’s own site, which has its own terms and privacy policy.
  • Your data. Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to Lawzen or anyone else; anything saved stays on this device. See our privacy policy.
  • Not legal advice. Lawzen is a marketing agency, not a law firm. Nothing on this page is legal, ethics, tax or financial advice, and using this tool doesn’t create an attorney-client relationship.
  • Who made it. This free tool is made by Lawzen, which sells marketing services to law firms. Where it mentions our services or prices, it’s describing what we sell. Results are provided as-is, without warranty; see our terms.
  • Trademarks. Google, ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Avvo, Justia and other names mentioned belong to their owners. Lawzen isn’t affiliated with or endorsed by them.

Questions, answered

About the Legal Directory Audit.

Which lawyer directories matter most?

Start with Google Business Profile, Bing Places and Apple Business Connect, which feed maps and AI assistants, then your state bar’s lawyer search, Avvo and Justia. FindLaw, Martindale and Lawyers.com come next. Selection-based lists like Super Lawyers and Best Lawyers only apply if an attorney has been selected.

Why does consistency matter?

Search engines and AI tools match your firm across sites by its name, address and phone. If one directory says “Suite 400” and another “Ste. 400”, or lists an old number, they may not be sure it’s the same firm, and the old details keep reaching potential clients.

Why don’t you scan the directories automatically?

Most directories block automated searches and forbid scraping in their terms, and automated matching often gets law firm names wrong. One click to each directory’s own search is faster and more accurate.

Do I need to pay for directory listings?

No. Basic listings on Google, Bing, Apple, Avvo, Justia, Yelp, Facebook and LinkedIn are free. Paid upgrades are optional: judge them by the calls they bring, not by the badge.
